Ubicada en Boston, la Academia de Aprendizaje de Verano Josiah Quincy Elementary ofrece actividades académicas y de enriquecimiento para los estudiantes a través de un plan de estudios equilibrado y de alta calidad que respalda las diversas necesidades de los estudiantes. Nuestro objetivo es ayudar a los estudiantes a alcanzar la competencia de nivel de grado mientras se previene la pérdida de aprendizaje en el verano.

ACADÉMICA
JQES Summer Learning Academy implementa programas de plataforma en línea basados en abordar habilidades académicas específicas para estudiantes este verano. A través de un enfoque de aprendizaje basado en proyectos para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje, los estudiantes adquieren conocimientos y habilidades trabajando durante un período prolongado de tiempo para investigar y responder a una pregunta, problema o desafío complejo y atractivo.
ENRIQUECIMIENTO
Además de proporcionar una experiencia de aprendizaje divertida y rigurosa para todos nuestros estudiantes, también están expuestos a actividades de enriquecimiento durante la semana para despertar intereses y explorar áreas como drama, arte, educación física, danza, yoga y codificación.
BIEN ESTAR
Nuestro programa se centra en los valores de FIRE del colegio y en el perfil de la comunidad de aprendizaje del IB y fomenta el crecimiento socioemocional al tiempo que ayuda a nuestros estudiantes a convertirse en ciudadanos globales de la próxima generación.
Logramos esto a través de nuestras interacciones con los estudiantes durante las reuniones matutinas, el aprendizaje basado en proyectos y actividades de enriquecimiento, y los registros individuales durante la semana.

Mr. Sacco
Coach
Mr. Sacco has been a teacher at the Josiah Quincy Elementary School for 20 years. He teaches Special education and ESL students. Mr. Sacco has worked at the JQES summer learning program for most of the last 20 years in many positions. He has been a classroom teacher, an enrichment teacher and a coach/facilitator for the summer program.
Ms. Lena
K2 Teacher
Ms. Lena has been a teacher for 20 years. During the school year she works as a first grade teacher at the Baldwin Early Learning Pilot Academy in Brighton. This is her second year teaching summer learning academy at the Josiah Quincy Elementary School. During her time away from school, Ms. Lena practices yoga and loves to take walks. She also enjoys planting vegetables in her garden, traveling with her family, as well as decorating and design. Ms. Lena is married and has twin 12-year old sons.

Ms. Wong
K2 Teacher
Ms. A. Wong has been working as a K2 SEI or bilingual teacher at the Josiah Quincy Elementary School for almost 20 years. Before she came to Quincy School, she was a Gr 4 teacher at the Baldwin School in Brighton. A few K2 parents were actually her former Gr 4 students. Ms. A. Wong loves science and enjoys keeping little critters as pets in her classroom. She is also a great advocate for new immigrants and is always there to help those parents and students.

Ms. Yee
K2 Teacher
Ms Yee has been teaching at Josiah Quincy as a K1/SEI teacher for 4 years. You may have seen her at meetings as she is also the Language Assessment Facilitator at the Quincy School. This is her first year teaching Summer Learning Academy. She recently got a puppy named Sadie! Ms Yee likes spending her time playing with her dog and looks forward to working with K2 students this summer.
Ms. Ruan
K2 Paraprofessional
Ms. Ruan has worked at Josiah Quincy Elementary School for more than 4 years. She assisted a K1 SEI class for 2 years and she is currently helping with a 4th grade inclusion classroom. She is a parent of two former JQES students. She loves traveling and listening to music.

Ms. Su
K2 Paraprofessional
Ms. Su has been working at the Josiah Quincy School for more than 20 years. On the weekends, she also teaches Mandarin Chinese to youth. When she has free time she enjoys listening to music and venturing outside for a nice walk. In addition, she likes to cook. She is looking forward to working with everyone and wishes everyone a safe and happy summer.

Ms. Yip
K2 Paraprofessional
Ms. Yip has worked at different jobs for the Boston Public Schools. She now works
at Josiah Quincy Elementary School as a Para. She loves the school and its location
being so central to everything. Her hobbies include cooking, hiking, Kayaking,
watching documentaries, walking local parks and visiting museums. Her favorite
foods are seafood, mangoes, and scallion pancakes. Ms. Yip likes cooking but not
cleaning. She enjoys being outdoors but not driving around. She never eats or
watches Television in bed.
Ms. Huang
Grade 1 Teacher
Ms. Huang has been teaching in Boston for 7 years. She has taught in various grades ranging from kindergarten to 4th grade. She currently teaches 4th grade SEI Chinese at the Harvard-Kent. Ms. Huang enjoys craft projects, singing and dancing during her free time. She has a younger brother who lives in New York and her parents are back in Asia. Ms. Huang is very excited to join Josiah Quincy’s summer team and looks forward to working with all of you!

Ms. Licence
Grade 1 Teacher
Mrs. Licence has been teaching in Boston for over 30 years. Her first job was a Substitute Teacher at the Josiah Quincy School. Mrs. Licence is married and the proud mother of three children who are all college graduates. Her youngest just graduated in May from UNH. She enjoys kayaking, reading and family gatherings around a garden fire pit.
Ms. Ansin
Grade 2 Teacher
Ms. Ansin has been teaching for almost 30 years and has been at the Condon for 3 years teaching 4th grade inclusion. She has one beautiful daughter named Mackenzie who is 17 and going to be a senior in high school. She enjoys walking her nine pound fur baby and listening to books on her phone.

Ms. Tse
Grade 2 Teacher
Ms. Tse has been teaching in Boston for 13 years. She has taught 11 years at the Harvard-Kent as SEI teacher for 3rd grade and 5th grade. She loves playing volleyball, doing arts and crafts, and going bike riding with her husband and two children. Her son is also a rising 2nd grader and her daughter is 4 years old and loves to eat ramen noodles. She used to be a student at the quincy school a few decades ago. This is her first year teaching the summer learning academy and is very excited to work with all of you.

Ms. Gillespie
Grade 3 Teacher
Ms. Gillespie has taught at JQES for the past three years. She began as the ESL teacher for a year before becoming the science specialty teacher, a position she currently holds. This summer will be Ms. Gillespie’s 3rd consecutive year at JQES Summer Learning Academy. She looks forward to meeting and getting to know her students. In her free time, Ms. Gillespie enjoys gardening, running, rollerblading and exploring nature.

Mr. Chan
Grade 4 Teacher
Mr. Chan has been teaching 4th grade SEI at the Quincy School for the past four years. Overall, he has had many years of experience working with kids in Chinatown through summer programs, after-school programs, tutoring programs, etc. He has taught Quincy summer school before, but haven’t in a few years. Many many years ago, Mr. Chan was also a student at the Quincy School. In his free time, Mr. Chan enjoys drawing, sports and exercise including basketball, and following Boston’s sports teams.

Mr. Hebard
Grade 4 Teacher
Mr Hebard became a teacher after he worked in accounting-related jobs for 25 years. He always wanted to be a teacher, because he likes to engage students and watch them grow. At Fletcher Maynard Academy in Cambridge, he is the cluster substitute. He has three other roles. He teaches 4th grade science, science songs to kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes, and simple engineering in his maker space.
Ms. Delaney
Grade 5 Teacher
Mrs. Delaney is finishing her third year teaching in Boston Public Schools. She loves to read and play sports, especially basketball. When she is not teaching or coaching, Mrs. Delaney loves spending time going on adventures with her two sons! She is excited to be teaching at the Josiah Quincy Elementary summer learning academy this year!

Ms. Doyle
Drama Teacher
Ms. Doyle taught Theater Arts at Josiah Quincy Elementary School for six years before going to graduate school in New York. Now she teachers Drama at The Otis Elementary in Boston. She loves making things, swimming and dancing. She lives with her dog named Auggie Sunshine and her turtle named Talullah Kiwi, six pollywogs, four fish and lots of colorful flowers and plants.
Ms. Ferguson
Art Teacher

Ms. Ferguson has worked for Boston Public Schools for the past 5 years. This past year she taught STEAM and ESL at the Oliver Hazard Perry K-8 school. Ms. Ferguson loves working with students because they teach her something new everyday. When she is not teaching , she is chasing her two year old son around, trying to keep up with him, trying out new recipes, or walking my dog. Ms. Ferguson can’t wait to explore art with JQS students!
Mr. Levett
PE Teacher
Mr. Levett just completed his 20th year teaching and currently teaches physical education for the Josiah Quincy Elementary School and will continue over the summer! When not teaching he enjoys running, swimming, golf, “building things” (currently a pool house) and relaxing with friends and family. He has a family of five, his beautiful wife Joanie, his two beautiful kids Sawyer (6) and Shalane (3) and one year old Shih-Tzu named Bessa. Fun fact: Mr. Levett has been in two Hollywood movies, Fever Pitch and Grownups and have tried out for the CBS show SURVIVOR a few times. Look forward to this summer
Mr. McCormick
Coding Teacher
Mr. McCormick has been teaching for 10 years. He just finished his first year teaching ESL with 1st and 3rd grade at the JQES and previously taught High School ESL Newcomers and 2nd and 3rd grade ESL at the PJ Kennedy. When he is not teaching he loves running, mountaineering and soccer. Mr. McCormick and his wife live in Salem with their two fluffy cats, Henry and Clementine, who like to show up for Zoom Classes so much that Ms. Chin’s 3rd Graders named him Mr. Henry.

Ms. O'Brien
Dance Teacher
Ms. O'Brien has been working at the Josiah Quincy Elementary School for 8 years. She has worked with the Physically Handicap classes, as a third grade teacher, and as a Movement/PE Specialist. When she is not teaching, Ms. O'Brien loves skiing, running, and basketball. She also loves to spend time outside with her husband and her son.
